At East Dene Primary we follow the National Curriculum through the Charanga Music Programme, with additional opportunities for cross-curricular links in all subject areas. Each week, children participate in whole school singing assemblies where they develop a range of voice and performance skills. Singing from an established repertoire, children will explore a broad and diverse range of songs and compositions that complement their wider creative curriculum.
We encourage children to participate in a variety of musical experiences through which we aim to build up the confidence of all children. Through singing songs, children learn about the structure and organisation of music. We teach them to listen to and appreciate different forms of music.
Parents can help pupils to become aware of music in their environment, feeling the rhythms and discussing how music makes them feel and why. Also through exposing your child to a range of music styles including classical, jazz, swing, rock and roll and pop. Can they identify the different genres? What musical instruments can they hear? Can they use musical vocabulary to describe the piece of music?
