Operation Encompass

At East Dene Primary School, we are proud to be part of Operation Encompass, a national safeguarding partnership between schools and the police that helps us provide timely support to children who may have experienced domestic abuse.

When the police attend an incident of domestic abuse where a child is present or lives within the household, they will share this information with our Designated Safeguarding Lead before the start of the next school day. This allows us to respond quickly and sensitively, ensuring that any child affected receives the care, understanding and support they may need while in school.

The information shared is treated with the highest level of confidentiality and is only used to help us safeguard and support the child.

Children can be affected by domestic abuse in many ways, whether they witness it directly, hear it happening or experience its impact within the family home. Under the Domestic Abuse Act 2021, children who see, hear or experience the effects of domestic abuse are recognised as victims in their own right.

At East Dene Primary School, we are committed to creating a safe, nurturing environment where every child feels valued, listened to and supported. If we believe a child may be affected by domestic abuse or any other safeguarding concern, we will always act in their best interests and work with families and other agencies where appropriate to ensure they receive the help they need.
