Child Exploitation

Child exploitation is a form of child abuse where someone takes advantage of a child or young person for their own benefit. This can happen in many different ways, including Child Criminal Exploitation (CCE), Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) and online exploitation. Children can be exploited regardless of their age, gender, background or circumstances.

Exploitation often involves grooming, where a child is manipulated over time into trusting someone who then uses that relationship to exploit them. This may involve promises of friendship, gifts, money, attention or status before the child is pressured, coerced or forced into situations that place them at risk.

At East Dene Primary School, we are committed to helping children recognise unsafe situations, understand healthy relationships and know how to seek help if something doesn’t feel right. Through our curriculum and safeguarding practices, we teach children how to stay safe both online and offline, empowering them to make safe choices and speak to a trusted adult if they are worried.

If you are concerned that a child may be at risk of exploitation, please speak to a member of our Safeguarding Team. We will always take concerns seriously and work with families and partner agencies to ensure children receive the support and protection they need.
