Child on Child Abuse
At East Dene Primary School, we are committed to providing a safe, respectful and inclusive environment where every child feels valued and protected. We recognise that children can sometimes be harmed by other children, and all concerns of child-on-child abuse are taken seriously.
Child on child abuse is any form of abuse that takes place between children. It can happen both inside and outside of school (including online) and may affect children of any age or gender. We believe that abuse is never acceptable and should never be dismissed as “banter”, “part of growing up” or “just having a laugh”.
Child on child abuse can include:
- Bullying (including cyberbullying)
- Physical abuse
- Emotional abuse
- Sexual harassment
- Sexual violence
- Upskirting
- Sharing nude or semi-nude images without consent
- Initiation or hazing-type behaviours
- Abuse within intimate relationships between children
Through our curriculum, assemblies and wider safeguarding work, we teach children about kindness, respect, healthy relationships, consent, online safety and the importance of speaking to a trusted adult if they are worried about themselves or someone else.
We encourage all children to remember that they have the right to feel safe, listened to and respected. If a child experiences or witnesses child on child abuse, we will respond promptly, fairly and sensitively, providing support to everyone involved while following our safeguarding procedures.
Parents and carers play an important role in helping children understand healthy relationships and respectful behaviour. By working together, we can create a culture where children feel confident to speak out, knowing they will always be listened to and supported.
