County Lines

County Lines is a form of Child Criminal Exploitation (CCE) where organised criminal groups exploit children and young people to transport, store or sell illegal drugs, often across different towns and counties. Children may be targeted because they are vulnerable, but any child can be at risk.

Criminals often use grooming techniques to build trust with a child before manipulating, coercing or threatening them into criminal activity. They may offer gifts, money, friendship, protection, drugs or alcohol, making it difficult for children to recognise that they are being exploited. Over time, children may become isolated from family and friends or feel unable to leave the situation due to fear or intimidation.

At East Dene Primary School, we are committed to educating children about healthy relationships, personal safety and recognising the signs of exploitation. Through our curriculum and safeguarding practices, we help children develop the confidence to identify unsafe situations and encourage them to speak to a trusted adult if they are worried about themselves or someone else.

Parents and carers also play a vital role in helping to protect children. Changes in behaviour, unexplained money or gifts, increased secrecy, going missing, or associating with unfamiliar people may all be indicators that a child needs additional support. While these signs do not always mean a child is being exploited, they should never be ignored.

If you have concerns that a child may be at risk of County Lines or any form of exploitation, please speak to a member of our Safeguarding Team. We will always take concerns seriously and work with families, the police and other partner agencies to ensure children receive the support and protection they need.
