Online Safeguarding
At East Dene Primary School, we are committed to helping every child stay safe, happy and confident when using technology. The internet offers fantastic opportunities for learning, creativity and communication, but it is important that children know how to use it safely and responsibly.
Online safeguarding is taught throughout our curriculum and is reinforced through assemblies, class discussions and themed events such as Safer Internet Day. Pupils learn how to protect their personal information, recognise potential online risks, communicate respectfully, and know what to do if they see or experience something that makes them feel uncomfortable or worried.
We use the NSPCC’s Play, Protect, Ask, Say approach to help children remember the key messages:
- Play – Enjoy being online safely and respectfully.
- Protect – Keep personal information private and use technology responsibly.
- Ask – Speak to a trusted adult if something online doesn’t feel right.
- Say – Report anything that is upsetting, unsafe or inappropriate.
We believe that online safety is most effective when schools and families work together. We encourage parents and carers to take an active interest in their child’s online life by talking regularly about the apps, games and websites they use, setting appropriate boundaries, and seeking support whenever needed.
